What are Hinged Patio Doors?

Hinged patio doors have door panels that swing in or out on hinges. Generally hinged patio doors face out onto a deck, porch or patio.

There are two kinds of patio doors: sliding and hinged. In a sliding patio door, one glass pane slides left or right to open and close. A hinged patio door swings in or out and has the advantage of coming with multiple door panels that open.

If you’re looking for extra air circulation the advantage of having multiple hinged door panels over one sliding door panel could make quite a difference.

Hinged patio doors are also available with only a single operating panel. You’ll still have the large glass viewing area of two panels, but only one will open to the outdoors.

Some people also use hinged patio doors inside the home as a divider between two rooms, such as a sunroom and the rest of the house. This allows more natural light to reach the interior of the home instead of the amount that would be available if a wall and interior door were installed.
