Customizable and Energy-Efficient Bow Windows
Bow windows are bay windows that are mounted on rounded frames. Like bay windows, bows extended outward to create additional space within a room. They are intended to provide a wider view of the outside, such as a garden or a panoramic back yard. While bays typically utilize three panels, bows usually require at least four to create the curved effect (although some bow designs use five or six panels, or “lites”).
No other windows can change the look and feel of a room like the Bay or Bow window. To increase energy efficiency, these windows come with a SuperSeat insulated seat board.
SoftLite bow windows, like our bay windows, garden windows, and many other styles, are completely customizable and are among the most energy-efficient in the industry. A bow window from SoftLite offers many of the same outstanding options as our bay windows, including:
- Extra interior space and improved sunlight exposure for the room
- Color choices from among our standard exterior colors or by using our custom color matching system
- A choice of several interior woodgrain finishes
- Customized exterior roofing with shingles, copper, or aluminum
- Threaded steel rods and a chain bracing system to eliminate the potential for sagging
- Water leakage and air infiltration protection
- A choice of picture, double-hung, or casement windows, or a combination of these styles, when creating the multi-panel bow window system
- A selection of energy- efficient glass choices
Features & Options
Configuration Options
Choose from bow windows in a 10-degree four, five, or six-window configuration, or a 15-degree four-window configuration. Choose bay windows in a three-window double hung or casement style with 10, 15, 30, or 45-degree configurations.
1 1/2 inch Hardwood Furniture-Grade Veneer Seat
We hand-select the interior face of our hardwood veneer lumber. Book-matched seams feature consistency in color and grain and no knots or glue lines. Whole-piece faced or minimally seamed seats provide exceptional finish and stain appearance.
Super Seat™
Measuring three inches in total thickness, SoftLite’s exclusive Super Seat™ consists of a 1 ¼ hardwood seat board and Dow® polyisocyanurate high-density R9 foam board. Plus, a ¾ inch exterior-grade ply is fused into the base. This makeup provides the Best-in-Class thermal and structural performance.

Edge Banding
Edge banding provides enhanced protection against moisture and an improved appearance of the unit. Edge banding is an uncommon enhancement that involves wrapping the revealed edges of the hardwood veneer for added protection.
ComfortFoam™
ComfortFoam™ is a CFC-free environmentally friendly foam insulation that Softlite uses in the main-frame and sash chambers of our vinyl frames. Filled vinyl frames offer better insulation compared to multi-chambered hollow fiberglass or vinyl and solid wood windows.
Low-e Glass
Low-e glass and argon gas fill come standard on our bays and bows. Plus, we have additional glass enhancements available.
Threaded Rod Mulling in Solid Steel
For solid structural support, two solid steel rods on every bay or bow extend from the units to the underside. In lesser designs, mulling is only a capping with no structural function.
Fasteners
Our fastening methods provide superior results. For smooth capping, we use countersunk weld nuts to ensure a flush underside. For a strong link to the zero-sag chain support system, we use heavy-duty steel eyebolts.
Cable-Free Chain Support System
With the stress of gravity over time, cables stretch and require adjustment. With chains, that’s not the case. Old-fashioned underbracing is obsolete with our chain support system. Our chains support 1,600 pounds of weight.
Full Vinyl Wrap and Capping
The same virgin vinyl we use to manufacture our windows permanently caps the exposed outer edges of our Super Seat™. This creates a finished look with no on-site caulk or glue. Plus, it allows for easy water run-off.
Solid Color Choices
SoftLite’s “solid” colors run deep from the exterior to the interior of your home. Scratching the color off is impossible, so you can enjoy your window without worry!
Exterior Foil Laminates
For more longevity than SureCoat, bow windows are available with any Delta-E™ Reflective Exterior Foil Laminate.
Interior Wood Grain Finishes
Enjoy a real wood look without needing to varnish or paint.

Decorative Grid Options
Enjoy any Decorative Grid option with our bow windows. Grid styles come in the same interior and exterior colors as the windows to match your home. All flat and contour grids sit within the insulated glass panes to stay dirt-free and keep the outside glass easy to clean.
Pre-Finished External Knee Brace
When the No-Sage chain support system can’t be used, the pre-finished external knee brace provides support. It also eliminates job-site fabrication and painting with its maintenance-free, vinyl-clad design and pre-sized construction.
Hip-Style Roof System
Custom-built roofs are the perfect fit for your bow window due to CNC design and factory assembly. Pre-notched construction accommodates our hanging chain support system, and they also come ready for any shingle system.
Roof Clad Kits
Kits are pre-cut and pre-shaped to fit your bay or bow. Tooled seam caps are used to secure each panel and eliminate the possibility of leaks. Available in 16 ounce real copper, or in 28 decorator Kynar® painted colors.
Designer Architectural Glass
A true work of art. Designer Architectural Glass allows your creative spirit to take flight. Each custom art piece is hand cut and hand leaded together, to your specifications, and sandwiched between sealed insulated glass. Glass colors, leading colors and design options, including true v-grooved glass, allow an almost unlimited range of choice for any taste or home style.
