Window Cleaning Tips

Dirty windows can reduce natural light, obstruct your views, and introduce allergens into your home. Cleaning your windows seasonally is important. SoftLite Windows and Doors offers the following tips to help you clean your windows with ease.

To start, wipe down your windows with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any loose dust and debris. If you have a lot of debris, you can also vacuum around the base of the window. Next, prepare a solution of dish soap and water or pick up a gentle window cleaning solution. Use a soft, cloth with your window cleaning solution and make small circles across the window. Remove your cleaning solution from top to bottom with a squeegee or clean, lint-free cloth for a streak-free shine.

If your window frame is especially dirty, use a few drops of dish soap and warm water to clean it as well. Be sure not to use abrasive cleaners, as these can damage your window.

Many styles of windows allow you to clean the outside of your windows from the inside. For instance, double-hung windows have sashes that easily tilt in to access the outside glass and casement windows crank to a 90-degree angle, which allows access to both sides of the glass.

Non-operating or fixed-lite windows such as some shapes or picture windows, can only be cleaned from the outside. Never use a power washer or hose to clean the exterior of windows. . Still use your favorite window cleaner and cloth or a squeegee to clean the outside.Visit our website at soft-lite.com to learn more about how to clean each type of window or get a quote for replacement windows that won’t clean up for your home.
